For the first time since 2020, Disney is planning to resume paying a dividend to shareholders as the media giant continues its turnaround amid historic industry shifts . "To that end, we will be recommending to the board that they declare a dividend by the end of this calendar year." Activist investor Nelson Peltz's Trian Fund Management, with $2.5 billion of Disney shares , has voiced his concerns about the elimination of dividends. Trian hasn't made a public statement since it ended its last activist campaign against Disney in January. Morgan Stanley said it looks forward to such a move, noting that Disney also suggested a return to share repurchases.

"We're getting to a point of being very destructive to the entertainment ecosystem," said Rosenblatt Securities analyst Barton Crockett. Bazinet said to expect the walkout to last into the fourth quarter, which would mean a writers' strike lasting between around 150 and 240 days and an actors' strike in a range of 70 and 160 days. The strikes could cost the film and TV industry about $150 million per week, Citigroup's Bazinet wrote, using inflation-adjusted data from the 1980 actors' strike. "The lasting impacts are: [it] makes the streamers stronger and the traditional media companies weaker," Crockett said. JPMorgan analyst David Karnovsky downgraded movie theatre chain Cinemark shares to neutral from overweight earlier this week, citing the strike.

Analysts at Citigroup and JPMorgan both lowered their recommendations on AT&T shares in recent days. The shares hit a low of $13.68 in Monday's session, the lowest since March 1993. "We have not seen, nor have regulators identified, evidence that legacy lead-sheathed telecom cables are a leading cause of lead exposure or the cause of a public health issue,” a U.S. Telecoms spokesperson said in a statement. Shares of Verizon were also down on Monday, falling 5.5% to $32.14, a nearly 13-year low. Analyst Philip Cusick downgraded the telecommunication stock to neutral from overweight and lowered his price target by $5 to $17. Still, his price target implies shares could rally 12.4% in the next year. AT & T is likely facing more pressure in its mobility business from Verizon, T-Mobile and cable providers as the postpaid phone business normalizes. The consumer wireless is also seeing increased competition from cable and fixed wireless access providers, Cusick said. When looking at other service providers, Cusick said he likes T-Mobile given its strong financials, improving subscriber and free cash flow numbers and share buyback opportunities.

On the night of December 5, the president of the Amazon Labor Union pummeled another union member. Some longtime Amazon Labor Union organizers decided to begin organizing on their own, without Smalls. It's time for investors to consider buying Disney after the media giant's latest quarterly results , according to JPMorgan. Analyst Philip Cusick resumed coverage of Disney with an overweight rating, and a December 2023 price target of $135 that implies shares could advance more than 20% through year-end. "For F2023 we now model year-over-year total company revenue and segment operating income growth of 9.9% and 7.8% vs. F2022. We model the return of a $1/share dividend in F2024," Cusick wrote. Disney shares have jumped 24% in 2023, after falling more than 43% in 2022 and roughly 14% in 2021.
Peter Karas / NorthJersey.com / USA Today NetworkIn addition to Cusick's case, he also confessed to four other Long Island slayings, officials said. “Today is one is one the most emotional days we've ever had the Nassau County District Attorney’s Office,” District Attorney Anne Donnelly told reporters in Mineola. He's been dubbed the "Torso Killer" due to the savage manner he maimed some of his victims. Cottingham had also been called the “Times Square Killer" for murders he committed in New York City. “These are the five we could be sure that he committed," Donnelly said.
Disney's stock may be getting ahead of itself after the return of legendary CEO Bob Iger, according to JPMorgan. Shares of the media giant rallied after the Sunday night announcement that Iger was replacing Bob Chapek , his former successor. Wall Street analysts largely cheered the move, with MoffettNathanson upgrading Disney to outperform from market perform . "We like Disney shares long-term, and advised to buy the recent selloff on the numbers flush, but are reluctant to recommend chasing shares here (currently up ~8%). JPMorgan still has an overweight rating and a price target of $135 per share for Disney.
While a slew of analysts lowered their price targets and future expectations for Disney earnings, many remained bullish on the company, insisting that it's poised to be a winner in the future of streaming. " The firm kept its buy rating on shares but lowered its price target to $122 from $135. Shares of Disney have shed about 35% year to date. Until the division reaches profitability, there could be more pain for investors up to the turning point for the company. Barclays, which has a neutral rating on shares of Disney, sees shares falling further.
